Shopping at Lowe's?

Don't Just Compare the Appliance Price. Compare What It Costs to Get It Home and Working.

An advertised appliance price is only one part of the transaction. Before choosing between Dan's Appliance and Lowe's, compare the exact model and the complete cost of delivery, installation, required connection parts, haul-away and any work needed at the installation site.

What Lowe's Says About Appliance Installation

Lowe's current appliance-installation information explains that required installation items may need to be purchased and that existing connectors and cords may not always be reused. Lowe's also states that installation pricing is estimated based on the actual work performed.

Additional Charges May Apply

Lowe's identifies several circumstances that may create additional installation charges, depending on the project and location. Examples include certain mileage, permits, haul-away, countertop work, ventilation changes, circuit-breaker replacement, building-access costs and minor carpentry.

What Happens If a Problem Isn't Visible Until the Old Appliance Comes Out?

Lowe's states that after an existing appliance has been removed, its independent installer may discover previously unseen work or repairs needed to complete the installation. Lowe's gives examples that can include shut-off valves, junction boxes, GFCI upgrades, surface preparation and local or national code upgrades. Additional charges may apply.

Why This Matters When You Compare Prices

The appliance price — and even an initial installation figure — may not tell you the entire cost of getting the new appliance installed and operating.

When Something Unexpected Is Found, Here's the Dan's Difference

Dan's Appliance agrees with an important part of this issue: sometimes a problem simply cannot be seen until the old appliance is removed.

A shut-off valve may not work. An electrical connection may need attention. A water line may be unsuitable. An existing installation may not meet current safety requirements. A cabinet, counter, vent or connection may create an unexpected problem.

Those conditions have to be handled safely and correctly.

Our Goal Isn't Just to Deliver the Appliance. Our Goal Is to Help Get It Working.

When Dan's encounters an unexpected installation condition, we work with the customer to determine the safest and most practical way to move forward.

When the work is safe, lawful and within the scope of what Dan's is authorized and equipped to perform, we make a reasonable effort to solve the problem and complete the installation.

If the condition requires an electrician, plumber, contractor or another qualified professional, we'll explain what we found and what needs to be corrected so the customer knows what the next step is.

When appropriate, Dan's can then return after the required correction has been completed and finish the appliance installation.

How Dan's Handles It

  1. We Identify the Problem

We determine what is preventing the appliance from being safely and properly installed.

  2. We Explain It

We tell the customer what we found instead of leaving them wondering why the installation could not be completed.

  3. We Do What We Can

If the correction is safe, lawful and within Dan's authorized scope of work, we make a reasonable effort to complete it.

  4. We Help Define the Next Step

If another qualified trade is required, we explain what needs to be addressed so the customer can get the condition corrected.

  5. We Work Toward Completion

When appropriate, we can return after the necessary correction is completed and finish the appliance installation.

What If Dan's Has to Come Back?

Some unexpected conditions require another trip, additional labor or a return after electrical, plumbing, cabinet or other work has been completed.

Dan's may charge a discretionary return-installation fee when an additional trip or additional installation work is required.

A return-installation charge is not automatically applied to every situation.

We look at the circumstances of the job and work with the customer whenever reasonably possible. If additional Dan's labor or another trip is expected to create an additional charge, our goal is to explain that to the customer before the additional work is performed whenever practical.

Bringing the Appliance Is Only Part of the Job

A new appliance sitting in your kitchen or laundry room isn't much help if it isn't connected and working.

Dan's approach is to work with the customer toward a safe, practical completion of the installation — not simply treat an unexpected condition as the end of the conversation.

We Want to Help Get the Job Finished.

That can mean solving a condition we are permitted to handle, explaining what another qualified professional needs to correct, or returning to complete the installation when appropriate.

Before You Compare Installation Prices, Ask What Happens When Something Goes Wrong

  • What happens if the existing shut-off valve doesn't work?
  • What happens if the electrical connection isn't suitable?
  • What happens if a problem isn't visible until the old appliance is removed?
  • Will someone explain exactly what needs to be corrected?
  • Can the installer perform any permitted corrective work?
  • If another professional is needed, will someone explain what is required?
  • Will the appliance company return to complete the installation?
  • Is there an additional trip or return-installation charge?
  • When will I know about additional charges?
  • Who do I call afterward if I have questions?

Those questions can matter just as much as the appliance's advertised price.

Compare More Than the Sticker Price

When comparing Dan's with Lowe's or another appliance retailer, don't compare only the appliance price. Compare the complete experience required to get the appliance safely installed and operating.

Some Premium Installations Include a Pre-Site Inspection

For qualifying premium appliance installations in participating markets, Lowe's describes a pre-site inspection performed by an independent installer. The installer measures the installation area and evaluates relevant plumbing, electrical and structural conditions.

Lowe's states that if new installation labor is required, the installer can document the change and process additional payment. Lowe's also says certain cabinetry, countertop, electrical and plumbing modifications are quoted separately and may cost extra.
