Why It Matters
Buying American-made appliances supports domestic manufacturing jobs, reduces supply-chain risk, and — for many customers — is simply the right thing to do. But not all origin claims are equal, and manufacturing locations can vary by model, model year, and production date.
Every USA manufacturing badge you see on our site has been reviewed and approved by our store team based on documentation published or supplied by the manufacturer for that specific model. We only display a badge when the exact claim is confirmed.
The Three Badge Levels
Made in USA
The "Made in USA" designation reflects the manufacturer's unqualified claim that all or virtually all of the product has been made in America. Speed Queen washers and dryers built in Ripon, Wisconsin are a well-known example. This badge is displayed only when the manufacturer's exact claim for the specific model supports it.
Assembled in USA
"Assembled in USA" means the product's final assembly takes place in the United States, though some components may be sourced internationally. This designation is common among major appliance brands that maintain domestic assembly plants while sourcing certain parts globally. The badge reflects the manufacturer's qualified claim for the specific model.
Built in America — With Domestic & Imported Parts
Used when the manufacturer states the product is built or assembled in America using domestic and imported components. The badge displays the manufacturer's qualified claim for the specific model.
How We Verify Claims
Our team reviews manufacturer documentation — including product specification sheets, brand websites, and official communications — before approving any USA manufacturing badge. We do not display a badge based on unverified claims, marketing language, or brand-wide assumptions.
Manufacturing locations can change. Brands occasionally shift production between facilities, and model-year updates may affect where a product is built or where its components are sourced. We review our badges periodically and update them when we learn of changes.
If you have questions about a specific model's country of origin, please call or email us before purchasing — we're happy to look into it for you.
Brands Known for USA Manufacturing
Several brands we carry have a strong track record of domestic manufacturing. Not every model from these brands carries a USA badge — manufacturing location can vary by product line and model year:
- Speed Queen — Washers and dryers built in Ripon, Wisconsin since 1908. Speed Queen is one of the most prominent examples of fully domestic appliance manufacturing in the United States.
- Whirlpool — Manufactures many of its washers, dryers, and dishwashers in facilities across Ohio, Iowa, and Tennessee.
- Maytag — A Whirlpool brand; many Maytag products are assembled in the same U.S. facilities.
- GE Appliances — Manufactures refrigerators, dishwashers, and laundry products in Louisville, Kentucky and other U.S. locations.
- KitchenAid — Stand mixers and some dishwashers are assembled in Greenville, Ohio.
